A Photographer's Love
I'm super excited about this blog post. I decided to write it a bit differently. Why? Because I've been so inspired by the women I've spoken with in the photography and creative biz space. Their journeys are all so unique and their personalities really shine through. So today I introduce you to Hannah Martini, who is a senior photographer located in Reno Nevada. You'll see how her love of photography is really a love of people.
Born and raised in Reno, Hannah was introduced to photography at the age of 16 when her parents gave her a camera that was about three hundred dollars. Her friends and family thought she had a great eye for photography. Even a professional local photographer really took an interest in her and told her that she really should try it out. So Hannah decided to give it a go. She first got started when she moved out of town with her boyfriend to Philadelphia. She knew no one but persevered in her self-taught photography journey. She did a lot of practicing. She photographed her boyfriend's friends who were all in college and who were seniors at the time. So the niche of Senior photography kind of choose her, I feel. I think while in that town away from home it helped prep her for the business she has now back in Reno.
One of the really awesome things I have learned about photographers is that even though photography is their passion they have other things in their life that they really enjoy. For Hannah it kind of relates as she just graduated in December with her science degree and hopes that one day she'd be a physical therapist. To me it totally makes sense because she loves people and she really cares for them. I can just tell by the way that she was speaking and talking about her clients. So it makes sense totally.
What I love is that she's true to herself. She really shared some things with me about her insecurities. And you know as a woman and entrepreneur in this world it's really hard not to have insecurities and not to compare yourself to others. Hannah and I really talked about that being a piece that she's really worked hard on. In the Reno area, there are a lot of photographers because duh it's such a beautiful location! So it was difficult for her at times to really be OK with her style of photography, which is really apart of who she is. You know she's a girl who loves to watch Friends, like Anges from Despicable Me goes crazy over fluffy puppies and she really truly does know who she is at the core. Hannah wants to continue to be that person for her clients and she wants to be able to convey that and help them feel inspired and empowered to be who they really are.
Last year she started to really focus on her business by getting a website designed and published. "She's in love with Love" and trying to sneak her way into wedding photography. She really does love people and photography. I asked her what her favorite part of the business is and she said it was marketing. At first, it was difficult for her, like most of us. But she worked at it started to love it. It became a way to express herself and to show people who she is inside out. She realized that “People fall in love with your business when they fall in love with you”- her quote and I love it.Her favorite tool is her website. She believes it's a great way for people to get to know who a photographer is.

Back to some of the challenges, she's had. Finding her style, in the beginning, was difficult because she was trying not to be like everyone else but she realized she wasn't like everyone else. And her style was very different. So then it became a comparing game. And she decided that it was more important to be true to herself than to compare herself to others and that's truly what clients would love.
Hannah's Passion Project
Now as to what projects she's working on, she's looking to really move into the wedding industry. But I want to share the project that I fell in love with that Hannah is doing. She's doing a #selflove project where she wants to promote positive self talk for women. What the project entails is asking women of different ages to think of just one word to describe themselves. Then she puts it on a T-shirt she designs and she does a free mini session with them and she gives them the images.
So awesome! One positive belief in yourself can change how you view yourself. Hannah says it’s really hard for women to decide on ONE positive word about themselves. It is hard. Even with myself I am learning to really connect with me. I’ve had to ask my friends what they thought of me. What words would they use to describe me. So the very fact that Hannah is using this to really help women to see the good in themselves is so inspiring and that's part of the reason why I decided to write this post differently.
You know, really Hannah encouraged me to really go after what I love and be happy with what I do. Interviewing these amazing ladies in has really encouraged me personally to start my own podcast and I'm super excited to tell you that the name of the podcast, “She's Crafted To Thrive”.
My Podcast will focus on women and their journey. And thanks Hannah I am biting the bullet and going for it. Connecting with women and helping them is a piece of my business that I really enjoy and sharing their journey and stories with others is like the icing on the cake.
