A Journey to Full-Time Photography
As an entrepreneur, I have learned that growth and community is key to a successful business. In a previous post about photographers pursuing the goal to become full time in their business, I was inspired to start a series featuring different photographers and their journey to what they view as successful. Why? We can all learn from each other and seeing others do it builds belief that YOU can do it too. So I am honored to introduce Ruth Terrero, owner of Ruth Terrero Photography.
Born and raised in Tampa and spending a few years in the Dominican Republic, she stumbled into her photography journey in 2013. Ruth has a passion for traveling and is currently tapping into the destination wedding photography industry. Currently, she is working full time while side hustling her wedding photography business that she officially started in 2016. Her style is vibrant, candid and elegant! She is truly capturing moments that you can share for a lifetime. I asked her what advice she would give to other photographers just starting out or working towards a full-time photography business.
Ruth’s 4 Top Photography Business Tips:
1. Have goals. Write them down and have a schedule.
2. Do a little something for your business every day.
3. Use tools that help manage your time. Her favorite tool Shoot Flow, great for wedding photographers.
4. Always keep learning! She does this by investing in personal development and workshops that will help her skills grow.
What I love about Ruth and her business is that she has kept her focus on clients and her marketing. Her superpower is having a marketing degree and a love for what she does. She admits though that she struggles with some aspects of her business, such as email marketing. But it’s her determination to learn how to better serve her clients in that area. Her website is awesome. It’s designed to help brides in their wedding planning endeavors. Perfect right! It’s about what they need and she is there to serve.
Ruth’s story should inspire you to go for it in your photography business. She credits her success to consistency and focusing on a niche. Ask yourself, Are you doing those two things?
On a personal note... A current project that she’s working on is collaborating with vendors on style wedding shots both in Florida and Internationally. If you want to learn more about her or book with her, visit https://www.ruthterrerophoto.com/.
